MANDOLIN AND GUITAR DUO

Welcome to our website. We perform as a mandolin and classical guitar duo under the name 'MANDOLINE AFFAIRE'  We (Penny Ross mandolin and John Jooste  guitar) are both professional musicians who divide our time between teaching  and performance  and  we have been playing music together since the early 90's. We appear regularly in concerts in and around Perth and Fremantle,playing various styles of music ranging from classical and baroque to modern Latin American, African, Irish, Russian, Greek and much more.  We have a vast repertoire which includes a range of Jazz standards, Film themes, modern ballads and some light opera favourites.  MANDOLINE AFFAIRE have appeared at countless   weddings, corporate functions, dinner parties and the like. We often perform in concert and have played regularly in various Perth and Fremantle concert series .......Fremantle Courtyard Music, His Majesty's Lunchtime series, South Perth Fiesta, Cottesloe Civic Centre, Joondalup Sunday series and Fairbridge Music Festival to name a few. In January 2002 we appeared to high acclaim in The Mundaring Festival at the Mundaring Weir Hotel.

PENNY ROSS is the only person to have graduated from The West Australian Conservatorium on mandolin. For 12 years she was a full time member of the popular group 'Stringy Bach', and still makes regular appearances with them. She was leader of the West Australian Mandolin Orchestra for several years and has performed   with mandolin orchestras from around the world at various festivals in Australia and overseas. She has appeared with the West Australian Symphony as well as the Singapore Symphony orchestras on various occasions.

JOHN JOOSTE migrated to Perth from South Africa in 1974. Since then he has perfomed in numerous concerts both as soloist and in various ensembles. His experience ranges from stints with cabaret and rock bands in the early seventies to classical concerts in Perth and around Australia. He spent three years as leader of the guitar section in the W.A.Mandolin Orchestra and wrote several works for them. In 2000 he co wrote and performed the music for Barking Ghekko Theatre Company's production of the play 'Tiger Tango'. John arranges most of the music performed by MANDOLINE AFFAIRE
